Choose Joy

We seek to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to all people, and to share the gospel through both deed and word.

Our Beliefs

We invite you to explore our beliefs and join us in our pursuit of living out our faith in boldness and passion.

  • Jesus

Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God, who died for our sins and arose from the dead.

  • The Trinity

We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.

  • The Bible

That the Bible is the inspired Word of God…a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

  • People

That every person has worth as a creation of God, but that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

  • Forgiveness

That forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Christ as Savior and Lord.

  • Becoming a Christian

Those accepting Christ should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized into Him.

  • Baptism

We baptize by immersion. We do not sprinkle. Immersion is the method described in the New Testament. We do not baptize infants. We immerse those who have personally committed their lives to follow Christ, who have come to faith in Jesus, repented of their sins, and confessed Jesus as Lord.

We believe the Bible clearly connects baptism with the plan of salvation. We do not re-baptize people for the purpose of becoming a member of the church who have previously been baptized.

  • The Church

The Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and exists to evangelize the lost and edify the saved.

  • Christ’s Return

That Jesus Christ will one day return to earth and reign forever as King of kings and Lord of lords.

  • Reformation vs Restoration

Swiss Cove Christian Church is part of the Restoration Movement, not the Reformation (the 1500s). The Restoration Movement officially began in the United States (Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Virginia) during the late 1700s and early 1800s with men such as Barton W. Stone, Thomas Campbell, and Alexander Campbell. The movement sought not to reform the Catholic Church (as the Reformation), but instead to restore the 1st-century church of the New Testament, which began on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2).

We do not identify as Protestants coming out of the Reformation (Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, etc.) but simply as Christians. Among other central faith tenets are beliefs that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, that the Lord’s Supper should be celebrated every Sunday, and that adult baptism is by immersion, as one part of the New Testament’s plan of salvation.

Several mottos summarize the movement such as: “In essentials, unity; in opinions, liberty; in all things, love.” And “Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent.”

Christian Churches and Churches of Christ are autonomous and do not have a council structure but are governed by local elders selected by each individual congregation.

  • Women’s Role in the Church

Women at Swiss Cove have various roles in which they serve Christ and the congregation. Many women have been given leadership gifts and we strive to offer various ministries of service to use these gifts and talents. We have men and women who assist in collecting the offering and serving communion. Our elders are all men as detailed in 1 Timothy and Titus. All women (and men) serving at the Cove are under the oversight of the eldership of the church.
